Descriptive book of Mexican War veterans, ca. 1870-1900.

Records members of Ohio volunteer regiments and the 15th U.S. Infantry who served in the Mexican War. Includes name, rank, and where recruited. May also include date commissioned, hometown, date of death, and remarks regarding service in the Civil War. Also includes a list of Mexican War veterans residing in Ohio who did not serve in Ohio military units. Contains newspaper clippings, including a 1908 picture of Ohio's fourteen surviving Mexican War veterans. Endpages include a list of battles, a list of reunions in Ohio, and other notes pertaining Ohio's participation in the war.

When Mexican and Civil War soldiers mustered out of service, many regiments turned their flags over to the state of Ohio. The General Assembly authorized the purchase of glass cases to display battle flags in the Statehouse. The battle flag collection increased as flags from the Spanish-American War, World War I and World War II were deposited. By the 1960s the flags were in poor condition.
